Calliope is partnering with Bass River Press to publish a poetry anthology that will explore the history, heritage, and spirit of Cape Cod and its islands, including Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
New England Poetry Club members are invited to submit poems that they feel would fit the criteria. This anthology will celebrate the diversity of the region, so residence on Cape Cod and the Islands is not a criterion.
Titled From the Farther Shore: Discovering Cape Cod and the Islands Through Poetry, the anthology will feature poems that celebrate the region in all its diversity: its industries (from cranberry growing and boatbuilding to marine science and tourism), its people (both present and past), its towns and natural landscapes, and its historical and cultural landmarks.
The anthology is scheduled to be published in 2020, to coincide with the commemoration of the Pilgrims’ landing in Provincetown.
To submit, please send up to five of your best poems by June 30, 2019, to calliopepoetryanthology@gmail.com. All poems must identify a connection to the Cape or the islands, either in the title, an epigraph, or a specific reference in the text. More than the generic, Calliope is looking for poems that capture what is unique about the region. No limitations on style or length; previously published poems will be considered.
In the subject line of the email, please put Poetry Anthology Submission. In the body of the email, list the title of each poem and, if it was previously published, note where it appeared and when. Please format the document so that each page is numbered and your name and email address appear on every page. Also, include a brief bio of 50 words or fewer.
The Calliope editorial team – consisting of Alice Kociemba, Angela Howes, Robin Smith-Johnson and Rich Youmans – are eager to review your work.
