Book Prize Submission Guidelines

Contests are open April 1 through May 31. Please read on to familiarize yourself with the contest and submission guidelines. Submit to the individual Poem Contests here.

BOOK PRIZES

Jean Pedrick Chapbook Prize
For a chapbook of poems published in the last two years.

Sheila Margaret Motton Book Prize
For a book of poems published in the last two years.

HOW TO ENTER

Submission Period

April and May only; entries received outside these months will not be considered. Winners announced in August/September on our website, and on Facebook and Twitter.

Prizes and Recognition

Winners of Book Prizes will receive:

  • $250 award
  • 250 NEPC Award book-cover seals (gold or silver-foil stickers which identify the book as prize-winning)
  • Opportunity to read at the NEPC Prize-Winners’ Reading (travel expenses not included)

Selection Process

  • The Motton Prize is judged by the New England Poetry Club Board.
  • Judges reserve the right not to select a winner.
  • The New England Poetry Club will not engage in correspondence regarding poems submitted or contest decisions.

Cost

  • Free for current NEPC members (Membership information here. Joining is easy.)
  • Non-members may enter by paying:
    • $15 reading fee for Book Prize submission.
  • Pay via this PayPal link or send a check with submission.
  • If making a payment via check, please:
    • make it payable to NEPC (with memo “Contest Fee”) 
    • include list of entries covered by check
    • mail to: Treasurer, New England Poetry Club

Book Prize Guidelines

Send copies of your book with a cover page that includes your contact information to:

Send two copies of your book for the Sheila Margaret Motton Prize.
Send one copy of your chapbook for the Jean Pedrick Prize.

Entry by postal services only; May 31, postmark deadline. Books will not be returned.

Non-members include a check for $15 per submitted title, made out to the New England Poetry Club, or include a note that payment was made via PayPal.
